Putting the 2022 season to rest

Oh, what a season 2022 was! After a canceled 2020 season due to COVID-19 and a limited 2021 season, our 2022 season surely didn’t disappoint! It was our best year to date. Many medals were won, lasting memories and friendships were made. Our Fusion teams competed at the IDBF Club Crew World Championships in Sarasota in July and we raced locally in Philadelphia and New Jersey. Our Fury ladies went to dragon boat camp in Florida and will be going to camp again in October to Spain. We had a wildly successful beginner Dragon Boat Program and currently have a dragon boat beginner clinic scheduled for 10/1.

In 2022, Bucks Dragon Boat made its way to Lake Galena at Peace Valley Park, expanding our paddler base. We now have 2 new teams to add to our fleet, Freedom Women & Freedom Mixed and we welcome them with open arms. They have been an amazing addition to our already awesome club. Also this year, our Fusion Women’s team hired a new coach, Tommy Leonardi from Philadelphia, and he has done a tremendous job on making the ladies team faster and stronger. ¬†We thank him for bringing his excitement, enthusiasm and superb dragon boat knowledge to our Fusion Women.

In July, our Lake Luxembourg was partially drained for the dredging of the lower part of the lake and while we faced some challenges in the beginning and had a new normal, our paddlers embraced the change and the shallow water actually made our teams stronger. In the end, we faced adversity and came out the other side stronger. We are looking forward to continuing our Fusion practices on Sundays until the lake freezes. Until then, you will still see Bucks Dragon Boat grinding away on Lady Lux.

We are already looking forward to the 2023 season! CCNC will be held in July in Sarasota, our teams will race again locally and you’ll see us nightly and on Sunday mornings paddling on Lake Luxembourg and Lake Galena. In this sport, we want to reach as many people as possible to give them the chance to do what we do best-and that is dragon boating! Keep an eye out for 2023 season program information. LIKE and follow our social media pages for up to date info regarding 2023 membership and clinics. We are always recruiting so contact us if you would like more information on how to “BE THE BLUE in 2023!”

And lastly, back after a 3 year hiatus, is the BUCKS COUNTY DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL! Save the date. September 9, 2023 will be the return of our festival where we support the Bucks County Housing Group and their food pantries. We will post more information later this Fall regarding registration. We hope to see you all on Lake Luxembourg next September.
